Masuria – the land of a thousand lakes
For years, Masuria has attracted people looking for closeness to nature and exceptional landscapes. Lakes, forests and green areas create space for both active leisure and peaceful relaxation away from the city.
The region offers many ways to spend your time – from water sports, kayaks and SUP boards to bike trips, walks along forest paths and discovering local attractions and Masurian towns.
Masuria is also a place with a rich history. The area includes numerous sites connected with the Second World War, as well as places linked to the former cultures and history of the region.
Although Masuria is called the “Land of a Thousand Lakes”, in reality there are more than 2,500 bodies of water here, so everyone can find their own way to unwind.
Walking and cycling route around Lake Dejguny
A moderately challenging cycling route around Lake Dejguny, leading along paved roads, gravel roads and forest paths. Along the way you can see the full range of Masurian scenery – from forests and fields to quiet bays and small atmospheric villages.
The route passes through Bogacko, Kronowo and Grzybowo. In Bogacko it is worth stopping by the historic 19th-century Masurian cottage with its characteristic thatched roof. Nearby, on the peninsula known as Lisi Ogon, there are also remains of Second World War bunkers, probably connected with the Wolf’s Lair.
Another point on the route is Kronowo – a village with a history dating back to the 14th century, known for its many roadside shrines and peaceful Masurian atmosphere.
In Grzybowo it is worth taking a break by the lake and resting on the beach with a view of the water. It is one of those places where you can still feel the atmosphere of old Masuria, with preserved historic buildings and surroundings that have remained almost unchanged for years.
The whole route lets you discover the quieter, less commercial side of Masuria – full of nature, silence and places where you can often spot water birds, deer, hares or beavers.
